Sleep My Child, Sleep

for SATB with piano

I have often wondered what it was like on the night of Christ's birth. How silent and still the world must have been for just a moment. The stars and moon, still and bright, watching over the silent night. The sand dunes shaded a warm blue and gold, cradling a manger and a treasure so bold.

It never ceases to amaze me that a baby, so small and innocent would be able to one day accomplish the miracles that It would. This makes me wonder, when Christ was born, did He have any idea the trials that He would be put through ? Or, was he for once in his life, able to rest in peace, and dream child like dreams?

The world was able to take it's first breath of relief, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Sleep My Child, Sleep

Sleep (sleep) my Child sleep.
Rest Thy soft eyes and dream.
Dream of love and warmth
In such a cool dark night.

Dream (dream) of peace on earth
As silent as a dove.
That war and strife may cease.
And hearts be filled with love.

Dream of hope and joy
That the sun may shine bright,
And melt away the sing of man
With thy perpetual light.

Dream (dream) of dreams,
Far beyond the stars,
Transcending time and space,
Divine and from afar.

Sleep (sleep) my Child sleep,
And dream (dream) of what you'd like.
Dream child dream,
