THE WALLS OF JERICHO

For Brass Quintet

Composer Notes:

The Israelites’ “Battle of Jericho” is a well known story from the bible. The city was the one gateway to the promised land. Surrounding the city were impenetrable walls to keep invaders out. God had given them specific instructions as to how to bring the wall down. This composition depicts those instructions as seen in Joshua 6:4-5.

“On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in”
